A shooter opened fire in a Midtown Manhattan building housing the offices of private-equity firm Blackstone and the NFL. According to The Wall Street Journal, the New York Police Department confirmed the shooter is dead, although details regarding his death remain unclear.
The scene is “contained” and the “lone shooter has been neutralized,” NYPD commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed via social media platform X. New York City Mayor Eric Adams reported multiple injuries and noted that law enforcement is conducting a thorough sweep of the building. He urged those inside to stay put as police search each floor.
A law enforcement official told CNN that one civilian is in critical condition after being shot. Another civilian and an NYPD officer—who was shot in the back—are both expected to survive.
Ongoing Investigation
Emergency response vehicles quickly arrived at the scene, blocking traffic along Park Avenue. The local FBI was also present, setting up a command post to assist in the investigation.
