On Linea, ETH is used to pay for gas fees. Both ETH and LINEA from L2 fees are burned.
Definition and non-definition of the LINEA token:
LINEA is not a gas token (gas is paid in ETH). Currently, it carries no on-chain governance rights and is not governed by a DAO. There has been no token allocation or sale to employees or investors. Consensys Software retains 15% of the tokens, subject to a 5-year vesting schedule.
A portion of net ETH revenue (L2 fees minus L1 costs) is used to buy back and burn LINEA.
LINEA is used to fund developers, users, liquidity providers, and Ethereum public goods. It is earned through network participation—not acquired through capital investment.
